Biopesticides

Biopesticides make use of naturally occurring pest killers such as fungi, bacteria and nematodes to attack pest species. These can be mass produced and applied in much the same way as synthetic insecticides or, in some cases, e.g some transgenic cottons, the toxic protein from the bacterium is produced in the plant.

CSIRO Entomology has a successful research record on the use of pathogens to control insect pests e.g nematodes to control Sirex wasp in pine plantations.
